India has some really cool things to amaze you. While still a developing country, India is highly advanced in the field of architecture. Not only were the ancient monuments of great architectural importance, the recent development too are quite quirky. Here are some of the strangest, weirdest and the coolest buildings in India.
1) Infosys, Pune
The Infosys Pune building is a perfect example of futuristic architectural excellence. This building was designed to look like an egg (read cosmic egg) so as to reflect the concept of evolution. This building and in fact all of the Infosys buildings are green buildings that are meant to have the least negative impact on the environment.
2) Bombay Art Society, Mumbai
The building was designed by architect Sanjay Puri, who too inspiration from the Cubist sculptures and resembles European Expressionist architecture. With three galleries inside it, this is the only public building to be opened up in Mumbai in recent times.
3) National Cooperative Development Corporation Building, Delhi
This building has two inclined wings, each nine storey high with a central core at top to create an open atrium. Looks amazing, isn’t it?
4) Bagh-e-Bahu Aquarium, Jammu and Kashmir
This fish shaped aquarium has been titled the largest underground aquarium in India. There are 24 aquarium caves inside that further incorporate 13 smaller fish caves. You enter inside a fish’s mouth, so you are pretty sure that it’s an aquarium.
5) Lotus Temple, Delhi
As the name suggests, this building is shaped like a lotus. Also known as the Bahai house of Worship, this building is an architectural wonder. So just in case you haven’t visited this place, please make sure you do.
6) Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru
This building is made in the shape of a giagantic violin along with its strings, key, bridge and bow. This building may also be the only building in the world to be dedicated to the memory of a musician.
7) The Orange County clubhouse, Ghaziabad
This building is apparently a society clubhouse. Why would a society need an upside down building as their clubhouse?
8) Antilia, Mumbai
This had to be in the list. Apparently the most expensive building in the world, this massive 27 storey building is home to a single family. This building is weirdly misshaped, but has a lot of facilities.
9) Motisons Jewelers Lotus Showroom, Jaipur
Another lotus in the list, these Jewellers must have attracted a lot of business because of its unique design. The building looks amazing at night, with its colour changing petals it’s almost like a lightshow.
10) Matrimandir, Auroville
Covered with gold disc on the outside, this building took a massive 37 years to build. This building is in the form of a huge sphere surrounded by twelve petals. The building gets its characteristic radiance because of the golden disc which reflects sunlight.
