Today we are celebrating 84th Indian Air Force Day. Air Force in India was established on 8th October, 1932 and hence is celebrated as the Air Force Day in India. Due to India being under British rule at that time, it was known as the Royal Air Force and had a starting unit of only 6 people. After we got Independence in 1947 was it known as the Indian Air Force and currently we have 1 lakh 10 thousand people recruited in Air Force.
Every year on this day there is celebration, previously at Palam air port, at Hindon near Delhi. It is attended by the Prime Minister and many other prominent officials in India. The highlight of this celebration are the Air Shows put up by the fighter planes and helicopters of Indian Air Force. Let us take a look at some of the most spectacular shows done by them!
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) was formed in 1996 to serve as the ‘Ambassadors of the Indian Air Force’. The Kiran MKII plane which was modified for aerobatic display, was used to create parallel and horizontal flight designs, releasing colours of the Indian flag using aerosols.
The sir show included the Su-30MKI, Mirage 2000, Jaguar, MiG 21s and C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft.
