If this lady wouldn’t have taken the first steps, we wouldn’t have had Indian women representing the country on global stages and winning laurels. A young lady of 22 in the year 1952, Indrani was the first Indian to contest at an international beauty pageant.
Here are some snapshots from the fabulous life she lived!
Indrani was the first one to represent India at Miss Universe pageant on 28th June, 1952 after being crowned Miss India.
She adorned the swimsuit will total grace and poise and was a stand out amidst her co-contestants.
She decked up sporting a bindi and gajra.
She was already a well-known classical dancer and was well versed in multiple dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Odissi when she was crowned.
As most Indian women in that era, she too was married off at an early age of 15 to a renowned architect Habib Rahman and was a mother of two.
In the year 1969, she was awarded the Padma Shri.
She later moved on and settled in New York and performed Indian classical dances across the globe!
