Everyday in newpapers and television we hear how rape survivors are shunned by the society even though they are nowhere at fault. In these times there is one man who has proved that it is not just enough to talk about the injustices done to rape survivors but also do something about it. He married a rape victim because he saw her as a human being and not as something that the society can judge and humiliate.
Jitender Chhatar, a 29 year old Farmer from Jind district in Haryana has not only married a rape survivor but also joined in the fight for injustice done against her. He married her last December with the blessings of his family and has also enrolled her in a law class so she can take part in the legal proceedings of her case.
The survivor was abused by Neeraj, a coaching class owne including 4 others. They even blackmailed her and have also registered 2 false cases against Jitender and are demanding extortion money. Howver, Jitender is unperturbed and is actively fighting the case and also seeks help from the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
This is the real manner in which one can actually make a difference for these rape survivors by giving them a place in the society and helping them heal their wounds.
